Leesburg, VA (November 2, 2010) – Celebrate Thanksgiving a little early this year and take the
opportunity to have fun, exercise, and perhaps win a turkey as you freeze your gizzard at Ida
Lee Park! The Town of Leesburg Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Loudoun
Interfaith Relief, is hosting the 8th Annual Freeze Your Gizzard Cross Country 5K and 1 Mile
Fun Run on Saturday, November 20, 2010. The race will begin at 9:00 a.m.
This year the course has been redesigned and re-measured by a USTAF sanctioned
representative. Veteran runners of this event can expect a new layout that incorporates a few
more hills to add a new challenge. Runners of all skill levels and ages are invited to join us for
this cross country style race.
The entry fee for pre-registration is $20 for the 5K, $10 for the 1-mile, plus 2 cans of food to be
brought the day of the event. Pre-registration can be done at the Ida Lee Park Recreation
Center or registration can be completed on-line at www.active.com. On-line registration will be
available until November 18, 2010. Day-of-event registration is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the
1-mile, plus 2 cans of food. Day-of-event registration will begin at 7:00 a.m.
Canned food will be donated to Loudoun Interfaith Relief’s food bank. More than 1,200 lbs of
food was raised at last year’s race.
The race will be timed by Charm City Running using the IPICO timing system, a state-of-the-art
timing system used in top races nation-wide. Thanksgiving-themed prizes will be awarded to
the first, second, and third place male and female finishers of the 5K for each age category. Age
categories are 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60 & over.
Registered 5K runners will receive a long-sleeve commemorative T-shirt and 1-mile runners will
receive a race medal. Refreshments for all runners and door prizes will be provided following
the race. Dogs, wagons and strollers are not permitted on the course.
