Leesburg Receives Distinguished Budget Presentation
Award for 25th Year
Leesburg, VA (November 3, 2010) – The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)
announced that the Town of Leesburg has received the GFOA’s Distinguished Budget
Presentation Award for its Fiscal Year 2011 budget. The Town of Leesburg’s Finance
Department has received this award for 25 years in a row.
The GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award recognizes organizations that meet the
highest principles of governmental budgeting. Recipients must satisfy nationally recognized
guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well
an organization’s budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and
a communications device. Budget documents must be rated as “proficient” in all four
categories, and in fourteen criteria within those categories to receive the award.
When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted to an organization, a Certificate of
Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual or department
designated as primarily responsible for the achievement. This certificate has been presented to
the Town of Leesburg Finance Department.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving
over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA
Distinguished Budget Presentation Award Program is the only national awards program in
governmental budgeting.
