Call to order, roll call and confirmation of quorum Chair Casey Collins called the meeting to order at 9 a.m. Public Space and Sustainability Manager Stephanie Trueblood called the roll and confirmed the presence of a quorum with five members present. 2. Agenda changes and approval Motion: Member Tim Logue moved to approve the agenda as presented. Member Bridget Booher seconded. Vote: 5-0. Ayes: Members Booher, Collins, Logue, Mixon Nelson and Greg Yavelak. Nays: None. Absent: Members Sharon Billings and Linda Paynter. 3. Minutes review and approval Minutes from regular meeting on Jan. 19, 2022 Motion: Logue moved to approve the minutes from January 19, 2022. Booher seconded. Vote: 5-0. Ayes: Booher, Collins, Logue, Nelson and Yavelak. Nays: None. Absent: Billings and Paynter. 4. Discussion items A. Memorial tree planting in honor of Liz Waters The board discussed locations for planting Nutall oaks in honor of Waters, who served on the Tree Board for many years. Motion: Logue moved to approve three to five Nutall oaks at Gold Park. The specific location is delegated to Collins and staff. Booher seconded. Vote: 5-0. Ayes: Booher, Collins, Logue, Nelson and Yavelak. Nays: None. Absent: Billings and Paynter. B. 2022 Bee City Initiatives: Guest Sarah Meadows Meadows, who is the Hillsborough Garden Club’s Bee City Subcommittee chair, reported that Pollinator Week is June 20-26. The garden club will distribute free seeds and is planning a pollinator photo contest. Trueblood noted that adding compost blankets to some town parks and other town initiatives also contribute to renewing the town’s Bee City status annually. TREE BOARD MINUTES | 2 of 2 There was discussion of creating a video to emphasize the reasons for keeping stems as they are in pollinator gardens for as long as possible. Part of this could be showing how to keep stems on site if you need to cut them from the plants. C. Creek Week Planning Activities will include inviting the public to join Logue and regular invasive removal volunteers in removing invasive plants on March 12 and 16. A wetlands cleanup event is scheduled for March 19. Trueblood will share information as it becomes available. Also, the Tree Board host a table in the pavilion at Gold Park from 1 to 5 p.m. March 13 for a Creek Week event. Booher and Logue volunteered to be at the table. 5. Updates A. Garden Club No further updates were given. B. Invasive Removal Program There was discussion about starting to remove invasive plants from the riverbank in Gold Park. Trueblood asked for ideas on how to discourage people from creating new paths to the river once the privet is removed. Member Linda Paynter joined the meeting at 9:57 a.m. There was some consideration of planting small plant plugs and ordering from Mellow Marsh Farm. C. Staff None. 6.
