Minutes 10/11/01
Present: Sigrid Boie, Anne Kantola, Marilyn Summers, Carol Coyle
Meeting was called to order. Minutes from the last meeting were not available, but will be
presented next month.
Marilyn reported that Dick Mott would be available to attend the November meeting. Carol will
look for the building plans for the current library.
Old Business:
The goals of the committee were reviewed. Discussion was held regarding the use of the
meeting room by the public. Various strategies for improving security were mentioned. Loss by
theft or failure to return books is a significant problem. Marilyn suggested an "Amnesty Week"
where patrons might return books without paying the fines.
Anne reported that carpenter ants are a problem in the library, and it is unknown how much
damage they have caused to the building. It was recommended that a building inspection by a
pest control company be done. Anne will check into finding a company to inspect the building.
Discussion was held about having mail delivered directly to the library and discontinuing the use
of a post office box.
Anne mentioned there is no inventory of library belongings. A database needs to be compiled,
and a disk containing the information needs to be stored securely elsewhere, such as the City's
vault. The overall insurance coverage of the building and its belongings needs to be reviewed.
Discussion of some unique collections and donations was held. Anne described the weeding
process.
Ann would like to expand the Juvenile and Young Adult sections, and remodel the small storage
room into a "hobbit room" for young patrons.
The next meeting will be held November 8th at 3:30 pm.
Meeting adjourned at 4:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Carol Coyle
