This webpage is the latest initiative of the Leesburg Economic Development Commission’s (EDC) Communications Task Force, aimed at spreading the message that Leesburg is a great place to do business. The web address of the new page is www.leesburgva.gov/BizBuzz. The launch of the Biz Buzz website allows Leesburg’s businesses an additional venue to celebrate their good news while also creating a “buzz” to attract other businesses looking to locate in the Town. Businesses interested in having their accomplishments posted on the webpage can email bizbuzz@leesburgva.gov or include the Biz Buzz email address in their press release distribution. “There is no better way to generate interest in investment and new business than to showcase what great companies we have in Leesburg and what great things they are doing,” said Ara Bagdasarian, Chair of the Leesburg Economic Development Commission. “Biz Buzz is a resource for the Leesburg business community to further amplify their press releases while their accomplishments tell the story of what an outstanding business destination Leesburg really is.” In the past year, the EDC’s Communications Task Force has implemented a series of measures aimed at improving communications with the Town’s businesses, and also creating a dialogue about the Town’s business community. First, the EDC created a Facebook page as an informal way to share events and updates from both the Town and the business community. The Leesburg EDC Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/LeesburgEDC. Secondly, Town economic development staff created four listservs – automated email distribution lists to which individuals can subscribe – that provide regular updates targeted to specific business groups. The four listservs are Downtown Business News, Development News, Business Owner Information, and Hospitality. For more information about these and other listservs offered by the Town of Leesburg, please visit www.leesburgva.gov/subscribe. An e-newsletter is currently in the works, also entitled “Leesburg Biz Buzz.” The newsletter will pair information from the Biz Buzz webpage with information regarding ribbon cuttings and other items of interest to the business community. Interested businesses and citizens will be able to subscribe to receive this monthly newsletter via the Town’s listservs. The EDC plans to launch the e- newsletter in December 2010.
