Town of Leesburg Welcomes New Capital Projects Manager
Leesburg, VA (May 3, 2019) – The Town of Leesburg announces
the hiring of Terry Yates as the new capital projects manager.
Yates has 35 years of civil engineering experience and is a
professional engineer in Virginia. He has a Bachelor of Science
degree in Architectural and Civil Engineering and is currently
completing his Master’s Degree in Construction Engineering
Management.
For the last eight years, he has served with the Virginia
Department of Transportation (VDOT) in a variety of capacities,
most recently as the Assistant Director of Transportation and
Land Use for Arlington and Fairfax counties.
During this time, Yates had a reputation as a person with a “can do” attitude who collaborated
well with others. He and his team were recognized by VDOT’s chief engineer for innovation by
partnering with the Federal Highway Administration to design and build a modular roundabout
in Fairfax County. This roundabout is the first of its type in Virginia and is the largest of its type
in the United States.
Yates said he was interested in coming to the Town of Leesburg because he has always enjoyed
the character. In addition, he will be working with an excellent staff and the type of work he will
be doing is very intriguing, Yates said.
“I know I have big shoes to fill as the new Capital Projects Manager. However, I am very excited
about the opportunity and energized by the challenge.”
Yates and his wife, Toni, currently live in Leesburg. They have four children and three
grandchildren.
