Leesburg to Observe “World Ovarian Cancer” Day on
Wednesday, May 8, 2019
Mayor Kelly Burk will officially kick-off the observance Tuesday evening with a
teal illumination downtown.
Leesburg, VA (May 6, 2019) – The Town of
Leesburg will recognize “World Ovarian Cancer
Day” on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.
Beginning Tuesday evening, May 7, teal flood lights
will illuminate the Loudoun Street wall of the Town
parking garage. Mayor Kelly Burk will officially kick-
off the observance at 8:30 p.m. on the east side of
Mervin Jackson Park. The public is encouraged to
attend and help raise awareness.
“Ovarian cancer has the lowest survival rate of all
female cancers. Most women are diagnosed once
the cancer has already spread, making it more difficult to treat,” Burk said. “We want to help
raise awareness of ovarian cancer and the need for global action to tackle this disease for every
woman.”
Each year, on May 8th, women living with ovarian cancer, along with their families, supporters,
and organizations from around the world, come together to raise awareness about ovarian
cancer. The first “World Ovarian Cancer Day” took place in 2013. To learn more, visit
