Winning “Kids to Parks Day” Image Revealed
Photo contest encouraged families to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors.
Leesburg, VA (May 30, 2019) – Leesburg
residents Alix and Doug Smith are this year’s
winners of the “Kids to Parks Day” photo
contest. The couple submitted a photo of
their 7-year-old son, Jack, exploring nature at
Ida Lee Park.
“Our trips to the Rust Library always include
time wandering around the Ida Lee grounds,
watching the tennis players, and playing on
the playground outside of the library,” said
Alix Smith, adding that her son’s favorite part
is the giant rock in the field behind Ida Lee.
“While occasionally you might catch him sitting still and reading a book on the rock, most of the
time, you'll find him climbing and doing what he loves to do most.”
National Kids to Parks Day, launched in 2011 by the National Park Trust, is always hosted on the
third Saturday of May. To celebrate, Leesburg's Parks & Recreation Department hosted a photo
contest to encourage families to get outside and enjoy the great outdoors by visiting the Town's
parks. The Smiths will receive a one-day family pass to the AV Symington Aquatic Center for
their winning photo.
