In advance of this anticipated snowfall, Snow Emergency Routes in Leesburg will go into effect beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 3. In preparation for snow plowing operations, all vehicles must be removed from streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes, to avoid being towed at the owner’s expense. Snow Emergency Routes are as follows:  King Street, from the Union Cemetery to Country Club Drive  Loudoun Street, from Liberty Street to Harrison Street  Market Street, from Fairview Street to the Route 7/15 Bypass In all other parts of town, residents are encouraged to remove vehicles, trailers, and other items from the roadways in advance of the snow. Reducing the number of obstacles on the streets greatly increases the efficiency of snow plowing operations in residential areas. Plowing operations will begin once approximately two inches of snow or sleet has accumulated on roadways. Primary roads, including Snow Emergency Routes, will be cleared first, followed by secondary and neighborhood streets. The Town recommends that, if possible, residents wait until after streets have been plowed before clearing the ends of their driveways, in order to avoid having to shovel more than once. Property owners or occupants, both residential and commercial, are responsible for removing snow from public sidewalks adjoining their properties within 24 hours of a snowfall. If ice is present and cannot be removed, it should be covered with sand, kitty litter, or a similar substance that will allow safe passage for pedestrians. Snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas must not be pushed into the street or other Town right-of-way. Town crews will remove snow from sidewalks adjoining Town-owned or maintained properties, after snow plowing operations are completed.
