Leesburg Joins 8th Annual National Mayor’s Challenge for
Water Conservation
During April, residents can make water-saving pledges and enter to win eco-
friendly prizes at www.mywaterpledge.com.
Leesburg, VA (March 11, 2019) – Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burk is once again joining mayors across
the country in the annual Wyland National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation. The
annual, non-profit, national community service campaign inspires leaders to engage their
residents in making life-style changes that add up to big reductions in water and energy
consumption.
Leesburg residents are being asked to make online pledges to conserve water and, in return,
will be eligible to win $5,000 toward their home utility payments, water saving fixtures, and
hundreds of other prizes. Plus, one lucky charity will receive a 2018 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to
serve the community. Throughout the month of April, residents can find water-saving tips and
make their pledges at www.mywaterpledge.com.
“Water is an essential part of this world,” said Mayor Burk. “This pledge is such a small step to
not only spread awareness but to ensure our water remains both clean and abundant in the
future. When you conserve water, you conserve life.”
Last year, residents from over 4,800 cities in all 50 U.S. states pledged to reduce their annual
consumption of freshwater by 2.2 billion gallons, reduce waste sent to landfills by 52 million
pounds, and prevent more than 114,000 pounds of hazardous waste from entering our
watersheds.
The 8th National Mayor’s Challenge for Water Conservation is presented by the Wyland
Foundation and Toyota, with support from the U.S EPA WaterSense, The Toro Company,
National League of Cities, Conserva Irrigation, and Earth Friendly Products (makers of ECOS).
