Story Time to Highlight Environmental Impacts of Goats
Leesburg, VA (July 12, 2019) – Mary Bowen, owner of Prosperity
Acres, LLC, in Sunderland, MD, and author of the blog “Browsing Green
Goats” will hold a free story time at Raflo Park on Saturday, July 20.
Bowen was awarded a contract, back in June, for vegetation
management using goats along two selected stream channels within
the corporate limits of Town.
Due to the project’s popularity, Bowen will read, “Nadia the Wonder
Goat”a story told from a goat’s perspective. Bowen will also discuss
the environmental impacts that goats have on the environment while
allowing families to meet a few of her furry friends, in person.
“It’s important for people to know that using goats is a safe alternative to cleaning up the
environment from invasive vegetation,” Bowen said. “The goats eat the vegetation, their
digestive system chews it up, and they pass vital nutrients for the environment in their manure.
“Our waterways must be protected and the goats don’t harm the waterways being on a job a
short period of time. That is why it is called targeted grazing.”
The free story time event will begin at 11 a.m. and is free and open to the public. For more
