Minutes of December 15, 2016 meeting
The Hopkinton Board of Library Trustees met at the Town Hall on December 15,
2016. The meeting was called to order at 7:05p.m. Mike McNamara, Susan Porter,
Beth D’Alleva and Interim Library Director Deb Ervin were present.
Ms. Ervin presented her Director’s report, which included a discussion of her budget
submission and a presentation she made with Heather Backman, Adult Services
Librarian, to the Board of Selectmen. There was also discussion of creating a new
fine structure for the library, including reducing fines on DVD’s, not charging fines
for senior citizens, and incorporating a monthly amnesty day. The Board voted to
approve these changes.
The Selectmen accepted a check for $2,500 from Unibank to the Library.
The Director and Board also discussed possible Meeting Room Policies for the new
library. Questions included whether the library will charge non-town affiliated
organizations for use, and how booking will be organized. We also discussed how to
handle use of the Meeting Room when the library is closed, and whether library staff
needs to be present at every event.
In other business, Board member Beth D’Alleva suggested that a banner or other
signage be erected at the Main Street Library site announcing the coming of the new
library in the Fall of 2017.
The Library Director also suggested that a tour of the new facility be organized for
the Board, and possibly the Library Foundation and Friends members, of the new
building. March was presented as a possible time frame.
The meeting adjourned at approximately 8:00 p.m.
