HomeMy Public PortalAboutr 04:145No. 04-145 Date of Adoption April 22, 2004 RESOLUTION AMENDING RESOLUTION #04-102 AUTHORIZING CARTERET URBAN ENTERPRISE ZONE DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION TO REQUEST FUNDING FOR LOWER WASHINGTON AVENUE PROPERTY ACQUISITION AND BUILDING FACADE IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret (the "Borough") is working to upgrade and revitalize the Lower Washington Avenue Business District; and WHEREAS, the Borough Council has determined that it would be appropriate to utilize Urban Enterprise Zone "UEZ" funds to pay for a portion of said revitalization project, as requested by the Carteret Urban Enterprise Zone Development Corporation; and WHEREAS, by Resolution #04-102 the Borough Council endorsed the application by the Carteret Urban Enterprise Zone Development Corporation for funds for said revitalization project; and WHEREAS, said Resolution #04-102 needs to be clarified as set forth below; and WHEREAS, the Zone Development Corporation has recommended that an application be submitted to the New Jersey UEZ Commission for the appropriation of Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars ($550,000.) of available Carteret UEZ funds for the above referenced projects, with $450,000 of said funding to be used for the acquisition of real property to be improved as a parking facility for patrons of local businesses and the remaining $100,000 be used to implement a business fagade improvement program. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret, County of Middlesex, and State of New Jersey as follows: 1. That the Carteret UEZ Development Corporation be and is hereby authorized to request from the New Jersey UEZ Authority the amount of $550,000.00 in funds from the Carteret UEZ account for the above described projects. 2. That the Mayor is hereby authorized to negotiate and enter into a contract to purchase Block 220, Lot 6, to be improved for use as a parking facility to service the Lower Washington Avenue business community. 3. That the appropriate Borough Officials are hereby authorized and directed to take the necessary actions to implement the terms of this Resolution. 4. That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Borough's Purchasing Department, the UEZ Coordinator, and the Borough Attorney.
