A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
APPROPRIATING $30,000 TO CONDUCT A SAFE ROUTE TO SCHOOL
STUDY AND AUTHORIZING STAFF TO SEND OUT A REQUEST FOR
PROPOSALS TO CONDUCT THE STUDY
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood and the Lynwood Unified School District
w.,-- have been cooperating to address the issue of crossing guard deployment,
sharing costs of the program, and on-going safety issues; and
WHEREAS, a Safe Route to School study will ensure that the proper
measures to protect children walking to school are being utilized effectively; and
WHEREAS, the study will build the framework necessary to evaluate
locations as to the appropriate deployment of crossing guards, consistent with
the policies and principles of the Caltrans Traffic Manual [Chapter 10, School
Area Pedestrian Safety]; and
WHEREAS, on May 9, 2006, the Lynwood Unified School District Board
agreed to pay their share ($30,000) of the cost for the Safe Route to School
study; and
WHEREAS, the City of Lynwood desires to obtain the services of a highly
qualified and experienced consulting firm to design, and conduct, a Safe Route to
School Study pursuant to Caltrans Traffic Regulations; and
WHEREAS, it is a common practice by cities to solicit proposals for
certain services; and
WHEREAS, the proposals received from Consulting Firms would allow
City staff to select the service that would be most effective and efficient.
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Lynwood does hereby
find, order, and resolve as follows:
Section 1. That staff be authorized and directed to send out a Request
for Proposals for a Safe Route to School Study.
Section 2. The transfer of funds from the Public Works Department,
Transportation account:
Transportation Account Amount To
1-4441-4220 $30,000 1-4121-4220
Section 3. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its
adoption.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED this 6th day of June , 2006.
