A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF LYNWOOD
DECLARING ITS SUPPORT FOR S. 2611, COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION
REFORM ACT OF 2006
WHEREAS, S. 2611, as enacted by the U.S. Senate May 25, 2006,
provides a path to citizenship for the majority of undocumented workers currently
residing in the U.S.; and
WHEREAS, the Senate Bill allows illegal immigrants who have been in
the country five years or more to remain, continue working and eventually
become legal permanent residents and citizens after paying back taxes, paying
at least $3,250 in fines and fees, and learning English, (Estimated number of
workers: 7 million), and the bill requires illegal immigrants in the U.S. more than
two but less than five years to go to a point of entry at the border and file an
application to return, (Estimated number of workers: 3 million), and the bill
requires those in the country less than two years to leave, (Estimated number of
workers: 1-2 million); and
WHEREAS, a path to citizenship is a critical component of this new

immigration legislation will have adverse effects for the millions of undocumented
immigrants working and residing in the United States and their families; and

selected congress members from the U.S. House of Representatives and
selected senators form the U.S. Senate, to develop the final compromise
