Leesburg Town Council Amends Town’s Noise Ordinance
Amplified outdoor music now allowed until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays
with permit from Town Manager’s Office.
Leesburg, VA (March 26, 2020) – At their meeting on Tuesday, the Leesburg Town Council
adopted amendments to the noise ordinance aimed at easing weekend restrictions for
businesses playing amplified outdoor music.
Under the amended ordinance, businesses will be allowed to play amplified outdoor music until
10 pm. on Fridays and Saturdays, with a permit from the Town Manager’s Office. The 8 p.m.
limitation for Sunday through Thursday evenings remains unchanged. Permits will be issued for
a one-year period. Businesses that receive two violations of the ordinance will have their
permits cancelled for six months.
In addition, the amended ordinance allows amplified outdoor music from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. with
a permit for special events such as races, block parties, and fundraising walks.
Except for permitted amplified outdoor music, the Council made no changes to the “plainly
audible” standard used to determine volume restrictions under the noise ordinance.
The ordinance amendments go into effect immediately.
