Patriot Disposal Begins New Recycling Program in the Town of
Leesburg
Plastic bags will no longer be accepted beginning Monday, January 27, 2020.
Leesburg, VA (January 10, 2020) – Beginning on Monday,
January 27, 2020 plastic bags and recyclables in plastic bags
will no longer be accepted as part of the recycling program
with the Town’s trash contractor, Patriot Disposal, Inc.
According to Manager Gregg Walbridge the change is being
made due to plastic bags getting wrapped around the
sorting equipment.
“It has to be removed manually, which causes downtime in
the facility,” Walbridge said. Not only can this cause damage
but also slows things down.
Residents are being asked to dump all recycling loosely
inside their toters. If the recycling will not fit into the Toter,
you can use an extra container with lid. Additional 96-gallon
recycling toters can be requested from Patriot.
Any recycling that has been placed in bags, or is mixed with non-recyclable material, will not be
collected. A yellow sticker will be placed on the Toter to alert the resident of the situation. Once
corrected, all items will be collected on the resident’s next regularly scheduled collection day.
The Department of Public Works and Capital Projects offers automatic email and text
notifications of changes to trash collection schedules and other public works-related news. Sign

schedule visit www.leesburgva.gov/recycling.
