Receive Virginia Torchbearer Award for
Mason Enterprise Center Leesburg
Leesburg, VA (December 2, 2010) – At the Virginia Economic Summit this afternoon, the
Virginia Chamber of Commerce recognized the Town of Leesburg, Loudoun County and George
Mason University with a 2010 Virginia Torchbearer Award for their collaborative efforts in
establishing the Mason Enterprise Center Leesburg, the new business incubator in downtown
Leesburg.
“We’re thrilled at the recognition this award brings to Leesburg and Loudoun County,” said
Marantha Edwards, Leesburg’s Economic Development Manager. “Even though the MEC has
been open in downtown only a few short months, its presence has already raised the region’s
profile as an entrepreneur-friendly business community.”
Leesburg and Loudoun County each committed $100,000 to fund the initial operating costs for
the business incubator, while the Mason Enterprise Center will manage the facility. After the
first three years, the Center is expected to be financially self-sustaining. The Mason Enterprise
Center Leesburg, which also houses the Town of Leesburg’s Economic Development
Department, is temporarily located at 15 North King Street while its ultimate home at 202
Church Street SE is under construction.
