v Cabin in the Mountains
It took a bit of doing, but we finally found out where
Gov. Bob and Lu Smylie have been spending their week-
ends:
Building a mountain cabin ... literally, with their own
two hammers. This weekend ... now that they've finally
"got the saw out of the living room" they officially
moved in, so the boys couldgo skiing while their parents
worked on the cabin.
It was in August that the Smylies, on impulse, bought
four acres beyond Cascade on the Payette River (the ad-
dress is Lake Fork), at the base of Mt. No Business.
Their nearest neighbor is Farmer Wylie, whose out-
building they tore down "to use the beautiful grey boards
in . the living room." Son Bill, 12, drew up the plans and
they've used them almost intact. Carpenters and the gov-
ernor put up the outside; the first lady and the governor
have been finishing the inside.
They had looked for a long time for a place they could
afford that was accessible in winter. They cannot go there.
much in the summer because of rodeos and other commit-
ments.
"We will," sighed Lu contentedly, nursing skinned
knuckles, "be working on it forever."
