A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF TEMPLE CITY OPPOSING A PENDING
INITIATIVE PETITIM TO LEGALIZE
THE USE OF MARIJUANA
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES
RESOLVE:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Temple
City does hereby find and determine:
(1) That it has come to the attention of the City
Council that a group, which has choseh to remain anonymous
and which calls itself "The AnonymouS.Committee for the
Abolition of the Prohibition against Marijuana ", has ini-
tiated action to amend the Constitution of the State of
California to leg:,lize the manufacture; sale, purchase,
possession and transportatior of marijuana »ithin the State
of California;
(2) That it is the opinion o"fthrs City Council
that the use of narcotics can lead to Criminal behavior of
a senseless and often vicious nature;
(3) That it is the opinion,df,,this City Council
that the uncontrolled use of marijuana may frequently lead
to the use of hard narcotics;
(4) That it is the opinion of this City Council
that the situation under suL;i an irritiative could result in
substantially increased cost to the City of police protec-
tion, prosecution, and incarceration of persons acting under
the influence of marijuana and other narcotics; and would
cause, in addition, substantial losses from thefts committed
by persons seeking to support such uses;
(5) That the legalizing of marijuana would serve
only to compound a now serious and complex problem presently
confronting the State of California and would aggravate a
presently clear and present danger to the health, safety
and welfare of all the citizens of our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City
Council of the City of Temple City strenously opposes this
proposer) Consticutional ,Amendment and encourages all the
citizens of this City to do
SECTION 2: The City Clark shall certify to the
adoption of this Resolution.
