A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
TEMPLE CITY OPPOSING CURBSIDE DELIVERY OF MAIL
BY THE UNITED STATES POST OFFICE
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Council
of the City of Temple City that the United States Post Office
Department by regulation is denying door -to -door mail delivery
services to homes built in new subdivisions unless a rural type
mailbox is provided at the curb by each home owner; and
WHEREAS, by this arbitrary regulation the work done in new
subdivisions in requiring underground utilities is completely
frusterated; and
WHEREAS, rural type mailboxes destroy the aesthetic beauty
which the City has sought to develop in its new subdivisions; and
WHEREAS, such an arbitrary policy on the part of the Post
Office Department is rank discrimination against new home owners
who will be forced to put rural type mailboxes in front of their
new homes which Is not demanded of other property owners; and
WHEREAS, the location of mailboxes at curbside will in-
crease the temptation to tamper and pilfer the United States mail,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the
City of Temple City does hereby go on record as opposing the Post
Office Department regulation requiring curbside mailboxes and
does join with all other interested agencies and parties in en-
couraging that appropriate action be taken to bring about a
reversal of the curbside mailbox rule by the United States Post
Office Department.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and is hereby
directed to send certified copies of this Resolution to all
interested parties and agencies in order to present the position
of the City of Temple City with respect to this arbitrary and
capricious ruling by the United States Post Office Department.
