Rain and Wind Does Not Damper 21st Annual Flower & Garden
Festival in Downtown Leesburg
Leesburg, VA (April 18, 2011) – As they say in
show biz, “The show must go on!” and
Leesburg’s 21st Annual Flower and Garden
Festival was no exception to this rule.
Despite rain, wind, thunderstorms and a
tornado watch, the festival lined the streets
of downtown Leesburg on Saturday, April 16,
and weathered the elements along with its
faithful vendors and attendees. But what a
difference a day makes as Sunday, April 17,
saw blue skies, warmer temperatures and a
terrific crowd of festival-goers. Over the
course of two days, the festival saw about
20,000 in attendance.
One of the annual highlights of this event is the judged landscape competition. This year the
event featured 11 area landscapers who showcased their best work. This element of the festival
is by far the most anticipated by the festival goers and this year’s landscape designs did not
disappoint. Juried by three local judges with backgrounds in horticulture and landscape design,
this year’s contest featured impressive displays.
“The workmanship of the landscapers gets better every year” said Bill Ference, Parks and Public
Space Planner for the Town of Leesburg. This year’s winners are:
• 1st Place: West Winds Nursery, Sudley Springs VA
• 2nd Place: Wildwood Landscapes, Purcellville, VA
• 3rd Place: Walker and Clarke, Waterford VA
Please visit www.flowerandgarden.org to view the full list of vendors that participated in this
year’s festival as well as the featured entertainers.
The Flower and Garden Festival is Leesburg’s unofficial start to the spring season, so be sure to
mark your calendars for April 21 and 22, 2012, and join the Town of Leesburg for the 22nd
annual festival. It’s an annual event but a perennial experience!
