HomeMy Public PortalAbout060_025_Better Home Town Board Position 2012 January 24, 2012 To Whom It May Concern: Please accept this letter expressing my interest in reapplying for a position on the board of The Better Home Town. I believe the Better Hometown has worked diligently to create as well as stimulate a healthy economic environment on Tybee. The board works hard to maintain the integrity of important historical and life attributes that encouraged so many of Tybee's residents to live here while encouraging visitors to enjoy our beautiful island. The BHT vision continues to impact me as a homeowner, a business owner, and as a parent. My husband and I have been residents and homeowners on Tybee for over ten years. We have (nearly) completed the restoration of our home, which was the Finance Office and local Post Office located in Fort Screven. We were honored with a Historic Preservation Award from the Tybee Historical Society. Going through this process made us even more aware of the architectural and cultural history of Tybee; it is a history that we believe is vital to to preserve and to celebrate. We continue to own and operate one of the oldest local businesses on Tybee, Doc’s Bar, located on Tybrisa Street. Because of our investment in a local business, we are committed to maintaining the continued economic health of the Tybee business corridor. I am invested in Tybee for the long run. Our family includes two young daughters who have lived their entire lives on Tybee. One of our highest priorities is to preserve for our daughters the characteristics of Tybee that made it such a unique place to grow up for my husband, who attended St. Michael’s School and the many, many summers coming to Tybee as a child. I believe that my professional qualifications also uniquely suit me for a position on the board. I hold a Master’s Degree from New Mexico State University in the field of Special Education and Communication Disorders. I have 17 years experience within the education business ranging from classroom teacher to mid-management positions. I have organized fundraisers for various non-profit businesses. I have helped to manage various businesses from a financial stand point. In summary, I believe in the mission of the Better Hometown Program and I believe that I can continue to help the board achieve that mission. Sincerely, Peggy Stone 29 Van Horne Ave. Tybee Island, Georgia 31328
