Leesburg Receives “Tree City USA” Designation for 22nd Year
Leesburg, VA (April 20, 2011) – The National Arbor Day Foundation has designated the Town of
Leesburg as a “Tree City USA” for the 22nd straight year. A community must meet four
standards to be designated as a Tree City USA: the community must have a tree board or
department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor
Day observance and proclamation.
The Town of Leesburg celebrated Arbor Day 2011 on April 16, 2011 at the Flower & Garden
Festival, with Mayor Kristen Umstattd and Tree Commission Chair Tom Seeman officially
receiving the Tree City USA award from Virginia District Forester Bryant Bays.
“I want to congratulate our hard-working Tree Commission and all of the citizens of Leesburg
for their efforts over the past two decades to preserve and build the Town’s tree canopy,” said
Leesburg Mayor Kristen Umstattd, on receiving the award.
