MINUTES
The October 18 , 1986 Special Meeting of the Board of Directors of
the Mi_dpeninsula Regional Open Space District had been called for
the Purpose of dedicating the Los Gatos Cree}; Park. A quorum of
the Board was not in attendance, and the Special Meeting, as such,
was not held, although the event proceeded as planned.
Board Members Present: Katherine Duffy, Teena Henshaw and Harry
Turner.
Board Members Absent : Daniel Wendin, Edward Shelley, r?onette Hanko
and Richard Bishop.
Staff Members Present : Herbert Grench, Craig Britton, David Hansen,
Jean Fiddes, James Boland, David Camp, Patrick Congdon, Thomas Lau-
sten, David Sanguinetti , Kerry Carlson and Matthew Ken.
The event, co-sponsored by the Town of Los Gatos, included a docent-
led hike, which began at 11 : 00 A.M. , from Civic Center to the top of
St. Joseph' s hill.. Approximately 150 people attended. At approxi-
mately 1: 00 P.M. , a dedication ceremony was held on the top of the
hill, and after the ceremony, wildflower seeds were sowed.

Mary Childress , P .O. Box 46 , Loma Mar, said she encouraged the
proposed acquisition as one of the few wilderness areas left.
D. Wendin said that he supported the acquisition, with some
reservations , and that he felt it was important that the land
remain wilderness , even though there were some short-term problems .
Motion: D. Wendin moved that the Board adopt Resolution 86-73, a
Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Midpeninsula
Regional Open Space District Authorizing Acceptance of
Purchase Agreement, Authorizing officer to Execute
Certificate of Acceptance of Grant to District, and
Authorizing General Manager to Execute Any and All Other
Documents Necessary or Appropriate to Closing of the
Transaction (Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve - Lands of
Schofield) . H . Turner seconded the motion . The motion
passed 7 to 0 .
Motion: D . Wendin moved that the Board adopt Resolution 86-74 , a
Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Midpeninsula
Regional Open Space District Authorizing Acceptance of
Purchase Agreement - Bargain Sale, Authorizing officer to
Execute Certificate of Acceptance of Grant to District,
and Authorizing General Manager to Execute Any and All
Other Documents Necessary or Appropriate to Closing of
the Transaction (Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve - Lands
of Howatt et al . ) H. Turner seconded the motion. The
motion passed 7 to 0 .
Motion: D. Wendin moved that the Board adopt Resolution 86-75 , a
Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Midpeninsula
Regional Open Space District Authorizing Acceptance of
Purchase Agreement - Bargain Sale, Authorizing Officer
to Execute Certificate of Acceptance of Grant to District,
and Authorizing General Manager to Execute Any and All
Other Documents Necessary or Appropriate to Closing of
the Transaction (Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve - Lands
of Miller et al. ) H . Turner seconded the motion. The
motion passed 7 to 0 .
Motion: D. Wendin moved that the Board tentatively adopt the
Interim Use and Management Plan recommendations contained
in the staff report, including naming the properties as
additions to the Sierra Azul open Space Preserve - Mt.
Umunhum Area, and indicate its intention to withhold
the properties from dedication at this time. H. Turner
seconded the motion.
Discussion: K. Duffy said she appreciated R. Perretta ' s
concern for the wildlife of the area and noted that the
District must work with neighbors to preserve and protect
open space value.
The motion passed 7 to 0 .
Mr. Perretta offered a tour of the area to any interested Board
or staff members .
