HomeMy Public PortalAbout1953-06-15 MeetingJune 15, 1953 The Council of Bal Harbour Village met at the Administration Building, Monday, June 150 1953, at 8:00 o'clock P. V% There were present: Messrs. Beatty, Collins and Dr. Leonard.,„ ' Absent: Messrs.. Brown and Stokely Also present were W. H. Webb, Village Manager; Mary Wetterer.; Village', Clprk and Fred Baisden, Village Attorney. The minutes of the previous meetings of April 20,.1953,end May l8r`2953 ' were read and approved. The Council discussed having a dinner meeting and it was. decided this would be held early in the fall when all the .members would'be in town. Dr. Leonard said it was now in order to make the appointments for Village officials. It was moved by Mr. Collins, seconded by Mr. Beatty, that Mr. W, H. Webb, be reappointed Village Manager. On motion of Mr. Beatty, seconded' -by Mr. Collins, Mary'':, Wetterer was:. reappointed Village Clerk. Mr. Webb said he would like to recommend that Gerard F. Parkes be re- appointed Police and Fire Chief.. On motion of Mr. Collins, seconded;by Mr. Beatty, Mr. Webb's recommendation was carried out. Mr.,Webb then recommended the following reappointments: Village At- torney, Fred`R. Baisden; Village Judge, Fred R. Baisden; Associate Judge, Tom J. Lummus; Village Engineers, Z elle-Whittaker, Inc. On motion of Mr. Beatty; seconded by Mr. Collins, the ree intments were made. Mr. Webb informed the Council that the present Board of Appeals con- sisted of Mr. Harry Tolton, Fred Zurwelle, and Dean Parmellee. 'This Board was agreeable to the Council and the members were to be con tacted to determine if they would still be willing to serve. It was moved by Mr. Beatty; seconded by Mr. Collins that the members of the Council would still act as the Village Planning Board. , The:Clerk informed the Council that it was customary for the Village Manager to sign the Village checks and in his absence they would be signed by the Mayor. On motion of Mr. Beatty, seconded by Mr. Collins, Mr. Webb was authorized to sign the Village checks or in his absence Dr. Leonard and new Resolutions`were prepared for the Miami Beach First National Bank. It was moved by Mr. Beatty, seconded by Mr. Collins that a Resolution be prepared for Mr. Stokely as retiring Mayor and printed on parchment, There being no further business before the meeting; on motion duly made, seconded and carried, the meeting adjourned. • JULY 20,.1953 The Council of Bal...Barbcur Village met at the Administration Building, at stop atclock P. Beatty, Collins,,. and Stokely - Absent: Mr. Brown•and Dr. Leonard Also.presentrere W. A. Webb, Pillage Manager,;'. V311age"Clerk; and Fred Baisden, Village tttorney. The council was informed that a notices.had Administration Building and Eire Station from Ju O, 1953' 1953, a period of ten10 days, informing all rty tentative tax assessment roll could be seen in t Aese thi no protests or complaints had been received. • Mr. Webb told the council that the 1953 Tax Rolf anted to $9,506,530.00, being Real Tryperty of $9,014,830.00 and Personal. Property of $739,200.00, less Homestead Exemptions of $245,000.00 and W3dovts Exenptions of $2,500.00. As"there were no taxpayer* present *protest their assessments on motion of Mr. Stokely, seconds by Mr. Collins the tentative tax assessment roll as -presented by the Assessor ins accepted.
