HomeMy Public PortalAbout1953-07-20 Meeting2 JULY 20, 1953 The Council of Bal Harboar Village met, at the Administration Building, at E:00 o'clock P. M., on July 20, 7953 to act as a Board of Equalization for the Village Tax Roll covering the period of January 1, 1953 to December 31, 1953. There were present: Messrs. Beatty, Col -ins, and Stokely A sent: Mr. Broom and Dr. Leonard Also present ere W. H. Webb, Village Manager; Mar;, Wetterer, Village Clerk; and Fred Baisden, Village Attorney. In the absence of Mayor Leonard, the Assistant -Mayor Mr. Beatty, presided at the meeting. The council was informed that a notice had been posted at the Administration Building and Fire Station from July 10, 1953 to July 20, 1953, a period of ten (10) days, informing al] property owners that the tentative tax assessment roll could be seen in the Assessor's office; and that no protests or complaints had been received. Mr. WebT told the council that the 1953 Tax Roll amounted to 0,506,5.30.00, being Real Property of ;i.`-91014,130.00 and Personal Property of 739,;'00.00 less Homestead Exemptions of ;: /.5,000.00 and Widow's Mxemptions of 42,500.00. As there were no taxpayers present to protest their assessments on motion of Mr. Stokely, seconded by Mr. Collins the tentative tax assessment roll as presented by the Assessor was accented. Thereupon motion dull- made, seconded and carried the meeting was ad;onrned. July 20. 1953 The Council then reconvened and proceeded further with a regular business meeting. The minutes of the previous meeting of Senn 15, 1953 were road and apnroved. " 1Ir, Beatty told the counc:Ll it was `.:her in order to make a tax Levy far the 19f3 year, On motion of Mr. Stokely, seconded by Mr, Collins, Resolution No. :a, entitled; Resolution No. 21 "A RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF BAL HARBOUR VIILAGE, FLORIDA, MAKING A TAX LEVY ITR THE YEAR 1953 AND FIX- ING THE 1 ILLAGE ON LT AL AND ULR-ONAL PROPERTY I?' SAID VI.: LAGI: AT TEN (10) BILLS," was unanimously adopted. Mr. Webb presented a bid from the Brooks Spr-nkler Company for installing sprinkler systems in the following parks, At the S.W. and N. W. corners of Park Drive and Bsi Cross Drive; Bal Bay Drive and Sewer Station Proncrty and across the street. He explained to Mr. Collins that it was the policy of the council to use some of any surplus that is accumulated during that tax year in improvements. It was then moved. icy Mr. Collins, seconded by Mr, Stokely and unanimously passed that, this contract be awarded to Brooks Sprinkler Comlan- in the amount of :7.,845,00, the money to be obtained from surplus. Mr. Baisden said he had resolved a letter frorr North Miami asking us to join them in attempting to have the Florida East Coast Railway Station located in their town. The letter was tabled due to two members being absent and Mr. Baisden was instructed to advise North Miami of the action.
