Cole, Library Director DATE: March 29, 2019 RE: Engraved brick program request In response to Mr. Matthews' email (attached), we do offer other fundraising opportunities, which start at $250 to have a name on a plaque or the glass wall. Regarding the brick program, the Trustees could vote to reinstate the program. If you want to consider that, here are my recommendations: We can receive brick donations throughout the year, but we put in only one order per year. I say that because there are administrative tasks involved, and a bulk order would most likely result in a lower cost per brick. We only offer one size brick (4x8), to keep administration to a minimum. We charge $125 per brick. The cost to us at this point in time is $50. If we have a small number of bricks, we could do the installation ourselves, but a large number would mean we would have to hire a mason to do it, which would add to the cost of the brick. 123 Main Street Watertown, MA 02472-4478 617.972.6434 Cole, Leone From: Bill Matthews <matthews.william.b@gmail.com> Sent: Sunday, March 10, 2019 3:12 PM To: timothy@watertown-ma.gov; Peolples, Penny; Ferguson, Shep; Hammonds, Leanne; Hanlon, Michael; Daniel Pritchard Cc: Cole, Leone Subject: WFPL Donation Options Dear Trustees: As part of the its expansion project in the early 2000s, the library offered several options for targeted donations from the public, including chair namings inside and engraved bricks for the front walk. I am requesting that the Board of Trustees consider re -introducing one or more of these options, particularly the engraved brick program. Although it is harder to remove the bricks once they are set, it is possible and, in fact, Perkins School for the Blind has such an on -going program. Thank you.
