Leesburg, VA (May 20, 2011) – At 2:00
p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 2011, Frank
Ruggles, formerly an official
photographer with the National Park
Service, will be speaking at the Thomas
Balch Library. The lecture is free and
open to the public. The Thomas Balch
Library is located at 208 West Market

Frank Ruggles served as an official
photographer of the National Park Service
from 2007 to 2010. During his tenure, he
visited and photographed over 150
National Parks, Monuments and Forests
across the nation. Frank described his
work as a National Park Service
photographer as his “dream job,” a
position once held by his photographic
hero, Ansel Adams.
In his lecture on June 12, 2011, Frank will
talk about the 1,000-day, 25,000-mile
journey with the National Park Service
that took him to the most beautiful and
wondrous places in the country. He will
also discuss how photography helped to
create the National Parks and will have a slide presentation of images from the National Parks.
A professional photographer since 1992, Frank Ruggles has done nearly every type of
commercial photography, from architecture and photo journalism to product and scientific
photography to portraiture and weddings. Prior to his assignment with the National Park
Service, he worked with a number of federal government agencies, including the Departments
of State, Commerce, Energy and Defense, the FBI, and the Smithsonian Institute. He recently
