HomeMy Public PortalAboutWidner, KatherinePortrait of a distinguished citizen Katherine Widner ��Tilt� yin An achiever all tier life, Katherine "Kitty" Widner's accomplishments have benefited Boise, especially its children, for the past 21 years. A Louisiana native, Mrs. Widner was selected outstanding 4-H Club girl for the state as a teen-ager in 1942. She moved to McCall with her husband in 1945 where she volunteered with the Girl Scouts, 4-H Club, PTA and the McCall ski patrol. In 1954 she served as president of the Idaho State Jay-c-ettes. She started the first Episcopal Sunday school in McCall and helped start the Long Valley Art Association, serving as its first president. In 1965, Mrs. Widner returned to college at Boise State University where she earned a degree in elementary education. She taught in New Meadows, Kuna and Boise before helping to launch the Boise school counseling program in 1970. She has received her master's in counseling from the College of Idaho and a Y" J h P y -% P 9- doctorate in educational psychology from Brigham Young University. Mrs. Widner helped start the Parent Education Center in 1978 and has been its director since 1979. The center is a non-profit, United Way organization and an extension of the Boise School District that helps parents improve their relations with their children. Mrs. Widner is an adjunct faculty member at the C of I and has taught classes at BSU. She has supervised counselor practioners at Idaho State University, has presented numerous workshops and written articles for professional journals and parent education manuals. Mrs. Widner and her husband, E.L. "Dude" Widner plan to retire in June so they can spend more time traveling and enjoying their four children and seven grandchildren. Mrs. Widner enjoys painting, writing, wing and gardening.
