Betty Woods
While the spirit of giving is popular this time of
year, to Betty Woods, helping the people of Valley
County is a year -round commitment.
Mrs. Woods and her husband, Ernie, own The 1

Woodsman motel and restaurant in McCall. Over ;

the years, Mrs. Woods has given away thousands
of dollars in food and shelter to the needy.
Each year, just before Christmas, Mrs. Woods ,

opens up her restaurant one evening and serves a ,
ZiA��y
free turkey dinner to anyone who shows up, rich or. '
',
poor. She's been doing this for the 10 years she and rev'
her husband have owned The Woodsman. The pastek,
two years, the dinners have been given in conjunc-
tion with the Valley County Volunteers, a non -:`'
profit service organization for the needy that Mrs.

Mrs. Woods, 46, moved to McCall with her hus-
band when the couple bought the motel- restau-
rant. She was born in Kentucky, raised in Michi-
gan, and came to Boise in 1967, where she and
Ernie operated a fast -food restaurant and trucking
business.
Mrs. Woods' selflessness is summed up by Judy
Herrick, a Woodsman waitress, "Just about any-
one who's down on their luck can come in and she
just reaches into her pocket and doesn't tell any-
one."
