Uncle Sam Wants YOU to Join Leesburg’s 21st Annual
Independence Day Parade!
Leesburg, VA (June 9, 2011) – The Town of
Leesburg’s Independence Day Celebration
will be held on Monday, July 4, 2011. The
day will be full of festivities, starting with
the 21st annual Independence Day Parade.
The parade, organized in conjunction with
Leesburg Daybreak Rotary, will kick-off at
10:00 a.m. from Ida Lee Park, travel south
on King Street and conclude at Fairfax
Street. Civic groups, youth organizations,
community groups, families and others are
encouraged to participate in the parade. No
fee is required to participate and pre-
registration is encouraged, but is not
mandatory. The application for the parade is
available online at www.idalee.org, or at the front desk of Ida Lee Park Recreation Center.
Back this year will be the American Originals Fife and Drum Corps, sponsored by Toth Financial.
This traditional corps adds a patriotic sound to the parade and is a favorite among parade
viewers. The group will perform at the intersection of King and Market Street as a prelude to
the parade. Plan to arrive downtown by 9:45 a.m. to hear the fife and drums before the parade
kicks off.
This year’s parade will also feature the 4th Annual Patriot’s Cup Competition, sponsored by the
Leesburg Today newspaper. This award will go the best parade entry, selected by a panel of
judges from Leesburg Daybreak Rotary. The winning entry will receive a banner to be placed on
their float during the parade and their name will be engraved on the Patriot Cup.
Awards will also be given to the best musical entry, most creative, best interpretation of theme,
and best walking group entries. This award competition will be separated by ages 15 and older
and under 15 years old. Winners will be presented with banners for their floats as well as
recognition and commemorative certificates at a Leesburg Town Council meeting.

In preparation for the parade, downtown streets will close at 9:30 a.m. All parade participants
must be at Ida Lee Park’s front field not later than 9:30 a.m. for assembly. Parking is available
for parade viewers in the Town Hall Parking Garage as well as the Loudoun County Garage.
Motorists wishing to avoid road closures should use Catoctin Circle as an alternate route.
