A quorum was present. The Cemetery Resources Board met on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Small Conference Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. Approval of the Minutes: A motion was made for the approval of the minutes from the January 21, 2016 meeting by Pat Rowe Kerr, Michael Shellman seconded. Minutes were approved. Old Business: Rebecca Gordon, Executive Director of Friends of the Missouri Governor's Mansion was present to discuss the upcoming monument dedication to Carrie Crittenden. Rebecca mentioned that donors will pay for the cost of the monument and are working with Capital Monuments on the design. She had a meeting with the docents and they were happy to participate in the event. Discussion occurred about how the event would be set up, possibly having the docents act as historical figures of those interred and telling their story. Also, an information booth and a donation area would be set up. This event would be used as a way to capture the interest of the community to appreciate the cemeteries. A tentative date of Minutes of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resources Board February 18, 2016 page 2 Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. was set for the event with meetings next month with the docents to occur. Discussion also occurred about preparing an example marker from Capital Monuments to see if people would be interested in purchasing this stone to mark a grave stone that is no longer legible. Discussion also occurred about personally inviting the City of Jefferson Council Members to the event. The Historic City of Jefferson is having a dinner on March 13, 2016. Discussion occurred about representatives of the Board attending the event. Nancy Thompson and David Grellner discussed a meeting with the Department of Natural Resources representatives about grant funding. DNR described information documents about each grave stone could be completed by trained volunteers or a preservationist for a survey of the cemetery. The Board decided to hold off on this grant funding at this time. It was decided to hold off discussion about donation mailing by Nancy until Tim Theroff could attend the meeting. Also discussion occurred about making arrangements to place flags on veteran's markers in the cemetery. Also discussion occurred about Hedge Grove Cemetery between Don Beck and Nancy. New Business: The John Gordon plaque was discussed. Mark Schreiber stated he had a source to get a new plaque if he had the correct information. Nancy Thompson stated that the family was interested in replacing the plaque with the correct information. Discussion then occurred about the grave stone unearthed that had the word "Captain" on it and trying to find who this individual was. The State of Missouri burial lot was discussed. Nancy Thompson has been researching the history of the lot to see who the ownership of the lot actually is and how it came to be. A new source of contacting the Office of Administration was discussed to see if they could help with the maintenance of this lot. Other Topics and Issues: The next Cemetery Resources Board Meeting was set for March 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the small conference room at City Hall with an onsite tour to Woodland/Old City Cemetery.
