AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE CODE OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI,
DEFINING THE MINIMUM DEPTH FOR UNDERGROUND, NON-CITY OWNED
UTILITIES PLACED IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF JEFFERSON, MISSOURI, AS
FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 1 (General Provisions) is hereby amended by the addition of
a new Sec. 1-24 (Underground utilities in the public right-of-way)to read as follows:
Sec. 1-24. Underground utilities in the public right-of-way.
The placement of utilities underground is encouraged. When utilities including telephone, cable
television natural gas, fiber optic, and electrical service wires are undergrounded, they shall be buried to a
depth of at least twenty-four (24) inches on the City right-of-way and shall be adequately covered and
compacted upon completion and shall be subject to inspection and approval by the City. All underground
utilities discovered to not be buried to the minimum depth of twenty-four 1241 inches and the depth creates a
conflict with new or existing public infrastructure or if the depth is a hazard to the public,said utility owner
shall lower� at their expense, the facility to the minimum depth. For new facilities, wavier of this minimum
depth may be granted by the City Administrator or his/her designee
Section 2. This Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after the date
of its passage and approval. //
