HomeMy Public PortalAboutResolution 67-752RESOLUTION NO. 67 -752 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY SUPPORTING THE CONCEPT OF NON - DIVERSION OF MOTOR VEHICLE AND GASOLINE TAX FUNDS THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPLE CITY DOES RESOLVE: WHEREAS, special taxes on automobiles, licensing, and gasoline purchases, have traditionally been devoted exclusively to improvement of streets, roads and highways; and WHEREAS, such restrictions have been supported on the proposition that the benefits derived from the taxes imposed should be manifested in the amenities of roadway travel; and WHEREAS, it has now been suggested that a portion of such funds be diverted to rapid transit facilities; and WHEREAS, this City Council feels that such diversion would be a poor precedent, would open the door to other diversions, and would dilute the benefit theory of such special taxes. NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Temple City does hereby urge the State Legislature to reject any diversion or impairment of funds derived from motor vehicle registration, in lieu taxes, vehicle licensing, gasoline taxes, or sales tax on gasoline purchases; and that such funds be restricted to street, road and highway improvement.
