Rhoads , 399 Bradford Street , Redwood City, requesting that the Board maintain a policy allowing bicyclists to use District trails ; 5 , a letter , dated April 25 , 1989 , from Jim Warren, 345 Swett Road, Woodside , forwarding two articles of possible interest to the Board. D. Smith said that draft responses prepared by staff for Board consideration were attached to each letter with the exception of the corMunication from Mr . Warren for which staff recommended no response . There were no changes recommended in the responses to Clarke and Leslie Stanley , Glenn Wegner , and Steven Rhoads . T. Henshaw stated her support for staff ' s response, to the letter from St . Patrick ' s Seminary Preservation Comr-ittee , IV. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Penny Durham, representing St . Patrick ' s Preservat] on Com.n.ittee , 395 Sixth Avenue , Menlo Park , addressed the Board and requested support for the committee ' s endeavors to preserve the seminary property as public open space. She briefed the Board on the status of the project . Motion: R. Bishop moved that an item be placed on the agenda for the June 14 , 1989 rieetirig to discuss endor sere ent of the comynittee ' s goal to preserve St . Patrick ' s Semi-nary larld . N. Hanko seconded the motion. The motion passed 6 to 0 . Following further discussion , G. Andeen stated that the response letter to the committee would be modified to reflect the action taken by the Board and to change the phrase "for the above reason" to "although the District is supportive of open, space acquisition throughout the area . " V. ADOPTION OF AGENDA G. Andeen stated that the agenda was adopted by Board consensus . VI . BOARD BUSINESS A. Hansen stated that escrow on the 35-acre Luckhardt property addition had closed on May 2 , 1,989 and that staff had received no further public comment . Motion: N. Hansen stated that since the Board last reviewed the use and manage.rent plans for the Ft--nnedy Road and Ld,mekiln Canyon Areas of the Sierra Azul Op( n Space Preserve nine properties had been acquired and sone, cf these acquisitic)ns have connected the two areas . He said that staff was suggesting co-Ibining the two areas into one single are,,-3. called Kennely Li ::kiln Area. S . Mariond, showed slides of the presery while r;--,.,viewirlg staff ' rcposed us,,e and managerment recornmendations . DiSCUSS4 = focused on access points to the preserve , signing, and gating of the access points along Al-.,a Bridge Road . C . Britton said that staff will be discussing an agreement with the Santa Clara Valley Water D;.strict and Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation Departn.ent to control bette,,r public access points off Al.ma Bridge Road and perhaps have the District managca the area of concern. Richard Tanner , 15445 Blackberry Hill Road , Lcs Gatos- , asked for clarification of the District ' s intentions for Blackberry Hill Road. lie said that survey work haci recently been done on an adjac-e-rit property to the, preserve on Blackberry Hill. Read and that the owner was installing a chain link fence with a ten foot gate to access her property. D. Hansen said that staff is r wear chin g rights on Blackberry Hill Road and that staff will hold a neighborhood rr,,eetirng with the residents on Blackberry Hill Road after the iesearch was completed . Jon P . Harward , 1901 S . Bascor, Avenue , Campbell , asked about a vaster plan for the preserve , Distric-11- intentions for additional acquisitions -in the area , 'and future use of the preserve . He reported on the Not-So­ Annual Park and Open Space Conference that was held in Marin County. G. Andeen reported ,-on the recent 'Thoisnew W¢_d Committee meeting. . M. Hale gave a brief preview of the May 13 dedication event at P ur1 suns Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. D . Hansen said that Friday, June 16 , .° had been chosen as the date fcarr Board members to tour the ranger yard at Rancho ``e"an Antonio Open Space Preserve , to see n e tit equipment , and to discuss ranger yard facilities , J. Hansen reported on a meeting that he and other staff members attends:d to plan for the. June 1.9 march h clean-up day sponsored by the cities of Fast. Palo Alto and Palo Alto . C . Britton suggested that , du" to a light agenda , the May 24 Regular Meeting be a Board field trip. A tour of the V dovitch property in Los Altos Hills was suggested for time field trip, with Peal 7as Ridge ,e n Space Preserve as an alternative if the Vidovitc:h property tour could not be arranged. .III ;;L IMS Motion: T.
