Police Personnel Board
Minutes – February 18, 2016
The meeting was called to order by Chair Rick Derks at 12:05 P.M.

The minutes of January 7, 2016 meeting were approved.
Chief Schroder advised that he had made a conditional offer to a Police Officer
candidate and that additional testing for this person was underway. Further that a
Police Officer had resigned effective February 16, 2016 and that the department is
currently short one Communications Officer.
Chief Schroeder also advised that Veterinary Assistant Christa Rhoads has
resigned. The position was advertised and 49 applications have been received. Dr.
Thiele, City Veterinarian, will work with Chief Schroder in the hiring of a new
Veterinary Assistant. The Board agreed with Chief Schroder’s assessment to do
the interviews and hire with the Board’s oversight.
A discussion was held concerning the recent lack of applicants for Police and
Communications Officer positions, how few then showed up for testing and the
low pass rate among those testing for Police Officer. It was the opinion of Board
members that the hiring of a professional hiring firm might be of help. Chief
Schroeder agreed with this suggestion and the Board’s recommendation will be
communicated to the City Administrator.
The Board then decided to have a Spring Appreciation Lunch for all Police
Department members on May 5, 2016. Derks stated he would set out assignments
for the Board members to prepare for this.
At 12:25 P.M. a motion was made by Dillon and seconded by Trowbridge to go
into closed session. Motion passed unanimously.

The next meeting of the Board was set for April 7, 2016.
Motion to adjourn by Bledsoe, seconded by Dillon, passed unanimously and
meeting adjourned at 1:12 P.M.
