The ARPB has not had a meeting since then and we felt it unnecessory to call a meeting to just consider the request for an extension. That is the reason for the delay from the time it was submitted. ELIZABETH MELLON 4 Driftwood Landing Rd. Gulf Stream, FL 33483 (561) 265 -3749 December 8, 2006 The Architectural Review and Planning Board 100 Sea Road Gulf Stream, FL 33483 Dear Architectural Review and Planning Board, I am writing to respectfully request a one year extension of the effective period of the Level 2 Architectural /Site Plan Review application approval that was given by the Board on Dec. 16, 2004. Our plan to enclose an existing screened porch with a conservatory has proved to be a very complicated, although by no means impossible, engineering undertaking down here in hurricane ridden South Florida. The design of the conservatory approved last winter was made by Renaissance Conservatories in conjunction with the window supplier Eagle Window and Door. Eagle Window and Door was selected because their new Axiom window line provided the largest operable window to date on the market. Shortly after our approval, Eagle Window and Door began the long Dade County certification process. The Axiom design was tested at evaluation labs in Florida from March through May. The Engineering evaluation and Dade County Application for Product Certification was submitted to Dade County Product Control in July. In August, Eagle Window received a letter from Dade County Product Control acknowledging the receipt of the application and labeling it, ironically, "Fast Track Process ". Dade County then requested additional information from Eagle Window in November and Eagle Window responded promptly. Eagle Window is hoping to obtain certification in the next 4 -6 weeks. Frankly, considering the fall that we have had, I feel that that projection is unrealistic. I am cautiously optimistic, however, that an additional year would be a realistic time frame within which to receive certification and apply for building permits. I understand that the approval for our project will expire Dec. 16 , 2005. 1 have just learned from Rita Taylor that there will be no Architectural Review and Planning Board meeting this December. I would like to apologize for not having addressed this situation sooner. There have been no material changes to the design that was approved last winter. It is my understanding that development regulations applicable to the project have not or are not proposed to be materially 1 changed so as to render the project inconsistent with the regulations prevailing at the time the extension would expire. Please find enclosed a picture of the project, a copy of the letter of confirmation of approval by the Board, and an e-mail that might help to clarify the situation. Thank you for your consideration and for your patience in this matter. They informed me that the state of Florida has not yet certified the products that they were sent several months ago. The normal time frame for testing to be completed is usually 3 -6 months, however, we are still in a waiting mode. We are hoping to obtain certification in the next 4 -6 weeks.
