ROLL CALL President Gerry Andeen called the meeting to order at 4 : 40 P.M. in the bay area of the ranger office at the Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. Members Present: Katherine Duffy, Robert McKibbin, Edward Shelley, Nanette Hanko, Gerry Andeen, and Richard Bishop. Member Absent: Teena Henshaw. Personnel Present: Herbert Grench, David Hansen, Jean Fiddes , John Escobar, David Topley, David Sanguinetti , Craig Beckman, Michael Jurich, Frank Olson, Phil Hearin, Warren Phillips , John Kowaleski , Gary Cloman, Loro Paterson, Patrick Congdon, Kerry Carlson, Dennis Danielson, Greg Grimm, Tom Lausten, Michael Newburn, Matt Ken, and Sheryl Marioni-Cochran. BOARD BUSINESS 1 . Tour of Ranger Yard Facilities and Presentation on Field Equipment and on Patrol and Maintenance Routines D. Hansen provided an overview of the field operations program, including staffing, radios , schedules , and development projects . J. Escobar reviewed the weekday and weekend patrol function, including foot patrol , volunteer program activities , law enforcement activities , first aid, and site maintenance. P. Congdon gave a "day-in-the-life" presentation focusing on a weekday patrol ranger ' s duties and activities . G. Grimm gave a presentation focusing on a weekend patrol ranger ' s duties and activities . D. Topley reviewed the crew' s function, including safety, projects , equipment, and training. W. Phillips gave a "day-on-the-crew" presentation. Special Meeting Meeting 89-15 Board of Directors June 16 , 1989 Discussion topics included the ranger residency program, mountain bicycles, patrol alternatives , equipment currently available to the ranger staff , ranger safety, and trail use issues . The members of the Board toured the yard to view field equipment on display, including tractors , Rokon bikes , and a punjar; a patrol vehicle, including radios , fire pumpers, and tools; and fire gear with pumper and search and rescue equipment. There was also an optional tour of the lower house at Rancho San Antonio Open Space Preserve. III. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 7 : 00 P.M. Jean H. Fiddes 2
