RESOLUTION
IN SUPPORT OF TROOPS IN IRAQ
WHEREAS, the United States is engaged in "Operation Iraqi Freedom"; and
WHEREAS, troops from all over the U.S. are being deployed to the Persian Gulf
and bases throughout the world, as well as being stationed in our camps here in the
United States on stand-by; and
WHEREAS, many of our soldiers who thought they were coming home are being
held over to continue fighting the war on terrorism; and
WHEREAS, these men and women are in service for our nation and for a
worthwhile cause. They are putting their lives on the line to protect us and our
freedom and we need to express our gratitude to them by fully supporting them
and their actions; and
WHEREAS, we need to stand united and express our unequivocal support for our
troops.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE Mayor and Council of the
Borough of Carteret, that they wholeheartedly support our troops both abroad and
at home and wish to extend our appreciation and thankfulness for their courage
and bravery and also acknowledge the sacrifices they are making on our behalf;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council hereby requests the
Governor of the State of New Jersey, James E. McGreevey to declare Wednesday,
June 2, 2004 "Support Our Troops Day" and by doing so, engage the entire state in
a common action such as driving with headlights on; ringing church bells or fire
whistles at a designated time; gathering around the flag and holding a moment of
silence at a designated time, or the like; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council of the Borough of
Carteret strongly urges the Governor to designate some action to be taken by the
residents of our state to signify our wholehearted support of our troops; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Mayor and Council wishes our troops a
successful mission and most importantly, a safe return home.

May 21st, 2004.
