RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ASSEMBLY CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
NO. 122
WHEREAS, a large number of senior citizens face a tremendous financial burden in
paying for the necessities of everyday living including, but not limited to food, utilities,
and much needed prescription drugs; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and Borough Council of the Borough of Carteret are aware of
the property tax burden that numerous senior citizens also bear in order to remain in their
homes, where many have lived for decades, sometimes for lifetimes; and
WHEREAS, Assembly concurrent Resolution No. 122 proposes a constitutional
amendment requiring federal funds received by the State of New Jersey under "Medicare
Prescription Drug, Improvement and Modernization Act of 2003" to be used to increase
income eligibility limits for the "Pharmaceutical Assistance To The Aged and Disabled"
program and the "Senior Gold Prescription Discount Program" or to improve the benefits
provided by those programs; and
WHEREAS, should this proposed constitutional Amendment be agreed to by the
Legislature, it will be submitted to the voters at the next General Election occurring more
than three months after such agreement, thereby giving voice to this matter by the
citizens of the State of New Jersey:
NOW THEREFORE, BE AND IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the Mayor and
Borough Council of the Borough o£ Carteret, Middlesex County, that the 211th legislature
is strongly urged to adopt Assembly Concurrent resolution No. 122, in order to amend the
State Constitution to require Federal "Medicare Prescription Drug, Improvement and
Modernization Act of 2003" funds to be used to increase income eligibility limits for the
"Pharmaceutical Assistance To The Aged and Disabled" Program and the "Senior Gold
Prescription Discount Program" or to improve the benefits provided by those programs,
and thereafter to submit same matter as a question to the voters of the State of New
Jersey at a General Election; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be sent to
Senator Joseph Vitale, Assemblyman John Wisniewski and Assemblyman Joseph Vas.
