Minutes Cemetery Resource Board Meeting Thursday, March 17, 2016 Members Present: Nancy Thompson, Chair Pat Rowe Kerr Tim Theroff Members Absent: Sherri Cook Council liaison: Mark Schreiber Guest: Michele Brooks, News Tribune Staff: David Grellner, Environmental Health Manager Don Beck, Property Maintenance Inspector Nancy Thompson called the meeting to order. A quorum was present. The Cemetery Resource Board met on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Small Conference Room, lower level of the John G. Christy Municipal Building, 320 E. McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Missouri. Approval of the Minutes: A motion was made for approval of the minutes from the February 18, 2016 meeting by Pat Rowe Kerr, Tim Theroff seconded. Minutes were approved. Communications Received: David Grellner announced that Michael Shellman, Co -Chair, has resigned from the Cemetery Resource Board after four years. Michael was integral in getting the Cemetery Resource Board started. Old Business: Nancy Thompson met with Rebecca Gordon, Executive Director of Friends of the Missouri Governor's Mansion, and the docents to go over plans for the June 4, 2016 event in Old City/Woodland Cemetery. Nancy showed a map on those individuals the docents would be representing to tell their story. Rebecca Gordon will be getting with Warren Krech to announce the event on the radio. The docents will possibly use I.C. Church to change into their period costume. The Carrie Crittenden monument will be Minutes of the City of Jefferson Cemetery Resource Board March 17, 2016 page 2 donated by Reid Millard of Millard Family Chapels. Nancy talked about getting musicians to perform at the event, possibly the Barton's from Boonville. Also discussed were placing flags for Memorial Day and discussion occurred about the John Gordon plaque to make sure the correct information was being obtained. Donation mailings were discussed and getting a list of businesses and organizations to send information to, possibly by email. Nancy Thompson and David Grellner gave an update on the State of Missouri lot located in Woodland Cemetery. They met with Chris Devore, Facilities Operation Manager with the Office of Administration, to discuss improvement plans to the lot. Discussion occurred about what would look better, rock or mulch in the plot. Gravestone repairs were discussed. David Grellner passed around pictures of grave stones that are next in line to be repaired. Nancy talked about repairing the bed stone grave plots so the girl scouts could help with flower planting. Nancy also mentioned that the Lincoln University ROTC could not come this past month but would try again in April. New Business: Tim Theroff was elected co-chair of the Cemetery Resource Board. The cemetery work day will be discussed at the next meeting. The onsite tour of Woodland/Old City Cemetery will occur at the next meeting. Other Topic and Issues: The next Cemetery Resources Board Meeting was set for April 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the small conference room at City Hall with an onsite tour to Woodland/Old City Cemetery.
