AWARDING CONTRACT FOR THE MARION
STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Borough of Carteret has publicly advertised for the receipt of bids for
the Marion Street Reconstruction Project; and
WHEREAS, the Borough has solicited and received 2 bid proposals for the base bid as
follows:
1. Star of the Sea $ 278,675.00

2. DeFino Contracting Co. $ 281,803.25

WHEREAS, Star of the Sea has submitted the lowest bid for said contract as evidenced
by the response on file with the Borough's Purchasing Department; and
WHEREAS, the Borough Engineer has reviewed the above bid proposals and has
recommended the award of a contract to Star of the Sea for the Marion Street
Reconstruction Project for the total amount of $ 278, 675.00; and
WItEREAS, the Chief Financial officer has certified that funds are or will be available
for said purpose if the Borough receives extra discretionary ~unds as set forth below.
NOW TI~IFREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of
Carteret as follows:
1. That the appropriate Borough Officials are hereby authorized to enter
into a contract with Star of the Sea for the Marion Street Reconstruction Project
pursuant to the Borough Engineer's recommendation of award, a copy of which
is attached hereto and made a part of hereof, for the sum of $ 278,675.00, in
accordance in all respects with the request for proposals and bid on same.
2. That this award is contingent upon the Borough receiving additional
discretionary funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation
("NJDOT') to cover the additional cost of the project attributable to the use of
specialized paving materials as requested by the NSDOT.
3. That this award is further subject to the approval of the NJDOT and
review of the bid documents by the Borough Attorney.
4. That a copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to the Borough's
Purchasing Department, Borough Attorney, and Borough Engineer.
Adopted this 20th day of May, 2004
and certified as a true copy of the
original on May 21, 2004.
