HomeMy Public PortalAboutDriveway Flowchart - Rev 6-25-12TOWN OF WATERTOWN RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY CONSTRUCTION AND PERMIT PROCESS (Code of Ordinance Sec. 5.04, 6.02, & 96.06) APPLICANT 1. All driveways must meet the dimensional & coverage regulations est. in the Watertown Zoning Ord. Section(s) 5.04 & 6.02*. 2. To apply for a permit, the applicant shall prepare a site plan or certified plot plan which shows all existing and proposed conditions (plans must be to scale and fully dimensioned)**. 3. The applicant shall submit a copy of the prepared site plan/certified plot plan to the Zoning Office located at 149 Main Street, Watertown, MA (Office hours: 8:30am-5pm M -F) W LL LL 0 CONTRACTOR a 0 PUBL O W 4. The Zoning Enforcement Officer reviews the existing and proposed driveway for compliance with all local regulations stipulated in the Watertown Zoning Ordinance. 5. If the plot plan complies with Zoning Regulations the plan is stamped approved & the applicant is referred to the Dept. of Public Works. 6. An application must be filed with the Department of Public Works by a contractor with a bond of not less than $10,000 (Code of Ordinances Sec. 96.06d). The DPW is located at 124 Orchard Street, Watertown MA (Office hours: 8:30am-5pm M -F) NOT APPROVED 7. Any work for the construction, reconstruction or repair of a driveway shall be issued only to the contractor performing the work, and shall require permit and a nonrefundable permit fee of $25 to the satisfaction of the Director of Public Works (Code of Ordinances Sec. 96.06c). If the plan does NOT comply with Zoning Regulations the process STOPS and the applicant is referred to the Board of Appeals for annronriate relief. 8. Upon issuance of a permit the Department of Public Works will document the existing condition of the public right-of-way and the contractor may begin installation of the proposed driveway. 9. Once the driveway improvements are completed, the contractor is required to contact the DPW and the ZEO for final inspections of the right-of-way and the driveway, respectively. NOTE: *The burden of proof regarding the legality of any existing, non -conforming driveway or parking area is the responsibility of the property owner ** Repaving of an existing driveway with no expansion or change ONLY requires a permit from the Department of Public Works, located at 142 Orchard Street, Watertown.
