SETTING A PUBLIC HEARING FOR ANALTERNATIVEPERSONAL
PROPERTY TAXRATEFOR ELDERLY ANDHANDICAPPEDINDIVIDUALS
WHE~, during Council deliberations on the fiscal year 1992 budget discussion was made of
the need for a personal property tax relief program for individ,,-l~ that q,,ali~y under the town's real
estate tax relief program; and
WHEREAS, the 1991 General Assembly has added to Chapter 35 of Title 58.1 on Article 1.1 of
the Code of Virginia providing localities with the option of levying alternative tax rates for elderly and
handicapped individ,,ul~; and
WHEREAS, this Council desires to offer such an alternative personal property tax rate to
q, mli~ed residents of the Town of Leesburg; and
WHE~, the proposed alternative personal property tax rate would be .001 per $100 of
assessed value; and
WI-IEREAS, before such a rate could be levied, a public hearing must frst be held and an
ordinance duly adopted:
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia that a public
hearing will be held on September 10, 1991, at 7:30 P.M. in the Town Council chambers located at
25 W. Market St., Leesburg, VA., for the purpose of considering an alternative personal property tax
rate for elderly and handicapped residents of the Town of Leesburg.
