New Section of Battlefield Parkway Opens Two Lanes To
Traffic on Saturday, August 13, 2011
Battlefield Parkway and Edwards Ferry Road intersection will reopen at the
same time, a week ahead of schedule
Leesburg, VA (August 12, 2011) –
Town of Leesburg officials announced
today that two lanes of the new
section of Battlefield Parkway, from
Edwards Ferry Road to Fort Evans
Road, will open to traffic on Saturday,
August 13, 2011. At the same time,
the intersection of Battlefield Parkway
and Edwards Ferry Road will be
reopened. The intersection has been
closed since June 20, 2011 and was
initially scheduled to reopen on
August 19, 2011.
According to Renée LaFollette, Deputy Director of the Town’s Capital Projects Management
Department, the new roadway section will open in stages throughout the day on Saturday, with
both lanes and the full intersection completely open by 5:00 p.m.
As the remaining two lanes of the roadway remain under construction, drivers are advised to
exercise caution when traveling in this area.
“We’re very pleased that our contractor has been able to take advantage of the dry weather to
move the completion of this phase of the project ahead of schedule,” Ms. LaFollette said. “We
know the closure of Edwards Ferry Road has been inconvenient for many people and we
appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during the closure. Opening this missing link of
Battlefield Parkway is going to make a huge difference in the traffic flow on the east side of
Leesburg.”

In May 2011, the Leesburg Town Council approved the temporary closure of Edwards Ferry
Road in order to accelerate the completion of two lanes of Battlefield Parkway prior to the start
of the 2011/2012 school year. The final two lanes of Battlefield Parkway from Edwards Ferry
Road to Fort Evans Road will be completed by the end of 2011.
