HomeMy Public PortalAbout1992_04_14_R045 The Town of Leesburg, Virginia PRESENTED April 14, 1992 RESOLUTION NO. 92-45 ADOPTED April 14, 1992 A RESOLUTION: ENDORSING THE ESTABLISIiMENT OF A LEGAL CLINIC AT THE WOMEN'S SHELTER WHEREAS, the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter (LAWS) is the only shelter for battered women and their children in Loudoun County; and WHEREAS, the purpose of LAWS is to work for an end to domestic violence; and WHE~, the shelter is applying to the Virginia Law Foundation for a grant to start a needed legal clinic; and WHEREAS, the legal clinic is consistent with the goals of the shelter to provide a safe place for the survivors of domestic violence; to empower, inform and advocate for battered women and their children; and to educate the community about domestic violence. THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows: SECTION I. The Leesburg Town Council supports the work of the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter on behalf of battered women and their children. SECTION II. The Leesburg Town Council supports the efforts of the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter to begin a Legal Clinic in order to better serve its clients. SECTION III. The Leesburg Town Council encourages the Virginia Law Foundation to fund the establishment of a legal clinic at the Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter. PASSED this 14th day of April ,1992.
