RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION:
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Defense Commemorative
commemorates the 50th anniversary of World War II from 1991 to 1995; and
WHEREAS, the program honors veterans and their families by encouraging the development of
programs and activities that 'provide greater understanding of the lessons, technological contributions and
history of the war; and
WHEREAS, to apply for acceptance into the program, the town must establish a Commemorative
Committee of 7 to 15 members who broadly represent the community, including veteran, education,
spiritual, media, business, civic and military leaders; and
WHEREAS, the committee chairperson should be able to provide continuity during the
commemorative period which ends on Veterans Day, November 11, 1995; and
WHEREAS, the committee must conduct three or more commemorative activities per year during
the commemorative period and complete activity reports.
THEREFORE, RESOLVED by the Council of the Town of Leesburg in Virginia as follows:
SECTION I. A World War II Commemorative Committee is hereby established to apply for the
World War II Commemorative Community designation for Leesburg.
SECTION II. The manager shall advertise the openings and refer the names of all interested
