3rd Annual “Dog Swim” at A.V. Symington Aquatic Center
Planned for Saturday, September 10, 2011
Proceeds will benefit the Leesburg Dog Park at Olde Izaak Walton Park
Leesburg, VA (September 2, 2011) – On Saturday, September 10, 2011, Leesburg Dogs, Inc. will
host the third annual Dog Swim at the A.V. Symington Aquatic Center in Leesburg’s Ida Lee
Park. The event will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Admission is $5.00 per dog, with a
limit of two dogs per handler. Children under 8 years of age will not be allowed at the Dog
Swim, due to the expected exuberance and rambunctious play of the dogs.
Since 2009, members of Leesburg Dogs, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports
the Leesburg Dog Park, have partnered with the Leesburg Parks & Recreation Department to
host an annual “dog swim” at the A.V. Symington Aquatic Center, after the pool closes for the
season and before the pool is winterized.
Over 1,000 dogs attended the 2010 Dog Swim and $2,000 was raised. Leesburg Dogs, Inc. has
approached Dominion Virginia Power with a proposal to use the proceeds of the Dog Swim to
replace trees taken down during the construction of the transmission line, which abuts the dog
park. Proceeds from the 2009 Dog Swim were used to install a water line and spigot inside the
dog park fence.
