WHEREAS, we acknowledge the Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration, also known as the Spring
Festival, which dates back as early as fourteenth century B.C.; and
WHEREAS, 2022 is the year of the tiger which is a symbol of strength and bravery, and those
born during the year of the tiger are said to be brave, competitive, confident and well-liked by
others; and
WHEREAS, the Lunar New Year is uniquely celebrated across many different Asian countries
and is a time for family reunions, gatherings, reaffirming bonds and reflection; and
WHEREAS, we recognize that Bothell, as a rich and diverse city, is home to many Asian families
and community members who celebrate the Lunar New Year; and
WHEREAS, in both acknowledging and raising awareness about different cultural holidays,
customs and traditions celebrated by our c ommunity members, we are taking steps to make
Bothell a welcoming and inclusive City for all.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mason Thompson, do hereby proclaim the City of Bothell’s celebration of
the 2022 Lunar New Year and invite all to acknowledge the Lunar New Year holiday as one of
the many cultural traditions that are celebrated by members of our thriving community.
